State of Fear Climax: George Morton vs. NERF

The climax in State of Fear is George Morton vs. NERF. There are many conflicts in this story but this was the main conflict in the book thus creating the climax. Throughout the whole book George Morton was investigating and trying to stop NERF even though we do not find this out until the end. During the book we find out that Nicolas Drake has misplaced $250,000 and that there are fake organizations that fund the E.L.F. Drake is part of both the E.L.F and NERF and we find out that he is using Morton’s generous funding to support the terrorist group. The Climax is not until the end of the book where the characters are on the Solomon Islands and the reader finds out that Morton was alive the whole time and what he was doing. Although George Morton was only around for the beginning and the end of the book he is still the most important character. All the other characters throughout the book are either working secretly with George in his absence or they are working to find out what George already knew about NERF. Whether or not you agree that the climax is George Morton Vs. NERF you have to agree that NERF itself was a big part of the climax.

Professor Hoffman State of Fear

I believe that the significance of the title State of Fear is “social control” like Professor Hoffman said. I think that the government and the media are responsible for the constant state of fear we are always in. We are afraid of everything, from food to our neighbors to the environment to traveling. The media often has a bias agenda and only reports on what they want the people to hear. They also exaggerate the concept to make it sound worse than it really is. For example we hear every night about how bad global warming is and they make it sound like we are going to die if we do not act today. This is not the case yes we need to be conscious but I don’t believe we will burn up. With society in a constant state of fear we are able to be controlled like sheep. We were afraid chemical warfare during WWII so everyone bought gas masks, and we are now afraid of global warming so everyone is “going green”. By instating this fear the media is able to control the consumer. I think Professor Hoffman is correct and has a very valid point, we are all afraid of the same thing, every nation fears the same things.

Earth Liberation Front Article

On December 31,1999 former E.L.F activist Frank Ambrose set the Agriculture Hall if Michigan State University on fire. E.L.F claims that it was in responce to forcing developing nations to switch from natural crops to geneticlly engeneered crops such as sweet potatoes, corn, bananas and pineapple. The fire reportedly caused over $1 million damages. Frank Ambrose was sentenced to 9 years in prison.

Global Warming Sample Introduction
Global warming, worldwide threat or get rich quick scheme? There is no disputing the fact that global warming is a controversy all over the world and that it is affecting everyone and everything around us. But you have to stop and think who is benefiting from all the negativity? There is no doubt that humans are having a negative effect on the Earth. There is plenty of research out there to convince even the most doubting skeptic, but is global warming being blown out of proportion to convince the masses that we are having a larger effect on the Earth so that governments around the world can make a quick buck?
